What is inner product?
Inner product: A generalisation of the dot product to any vector space: a rule taking two vectors to a number that is linear in each, symmetric, and positive for any vector paired with itself. It lets one define length and angle in settings beyond ordinary coordinates.
Inner product: an example
For functions on an interval, the integral of f(x)*g(x) is an inner product; for ordinary vectors it reduces to the dot product.
