What is l1 norm?
L1 norm (also called Manhattan norm, Taxicab norm): The size of a vector measured by adding up the absolute values of its components. It gives the distance you would walk along axes only, and as a penalty it pushes many weights to exactly zero, producing sparse models.
L1 norm: an example
||[3, -4, 2]||_1 = 3 + 4 + 2 = 9.
