What is linear transformation?
Linear transformation (also called Linear map): A function between vector spaces that preserves addition and scaling: transforming a sum equals summing the transforms, and scaling before or after gives the same result. Every such function on coordinate vectors is multiplication by some matrix.
Linear transformation: an example
Rotating every point of the plane by 30 degrees is linear and is represented by a 2 x 2 rotation matrix.
