What is matrix multiplication?
Matrix multiplication (also called Matmul): Combining an m x n matrix with an n x p matrix to give an m x p matrix, where each entry is the dot product of a row from the first and a column from the second. It represents applying one transformation after another and is the main workload of neural networks.
Matrix multiplication: an example
[[1,2],[3,4]] times [[5],[6]] = [[1*5+2*6],[3*5+4*6]] = [[17],[39]].
