What is histogram equalisation?
Histogram equalisation: A contrast-boosting technique that redistributes pixel brightness values so they spread more evenly across the full range. It makes details in under- or over-exposed images easier to see. It is a common preprocessing step for dim medical or surveillance images.
Histogram equalisation: an example
Applying it to an X-ray whose values sit between 80 and 140 stretches them across roughly 0 to 255, making faint structures visible.
