What is quantile?
Quantile: A value that splits a distribution so a stated fraction of the probability lies at or below it. The q-quantile is the value x where the cumulative distribution reaches q. It is found by inverting the cumulative distribution function.
Quantile: an example
The 0.9 quantile of response time is the time below which 90% of requests fall; if it is 300 ms, then 90% of calls finish within 300 ms.
