What is random variable?
Random variable: A variable whose value is a numerical outcome of a random experiment. It maps each possible outcome to a number so that we can compute averages and spreads. It can be discrete or continuous.
Random variable: an example
Let X be the number of heads in 3 coin tosses. X can be 0, 1, 2 or 3 depending on the outcome.
