What is monitoring?
Monitoring: Continuously collecting and watching measurements about a system, such as error rate, latency and resource use, with alerts when they cross limits. It answers whether something is wrong, so problems are noticed by engineers before users complain.
Monitoring: an example
A dashboard shows API error rate; an alert fires when it exceeds 2% for five minutes.
