What is observability?
Observability: The ability to understand what is happening inside a system from the data it emits, mainly metrics, logs and traces. Where monitoring checks known signals, it helps engineers investigate new, unexpected problems by asking fresh questions of the data.
Observability: an example
When responses slow down, engineers follow a single request's trace to find that one database call takes 3 seconds.
