What is gaussian elimination?
Gaussian elimination (also called Row reduction): A step-by-step method for solving linear systems by adding multiples of rows to other rows and swapping rows until the matrix becomes triangular, then finding unknowns from the bottom up. It is the basis of many numerical solvers.
Gaussian elimination: an example
Subtracting 3 times row 1 from row 2 in [[1,2],[3,-1]] leaves [0, -7], from which y and then x follow.
