What is tab completion?
Tab completion (also called Autocomplete): A shell feature where pressing the Tab key finishes a partly typed command, file name or path, or lists the possibilities. It saves typing, avoids spelling mistakes and helps you discover what files or options exist.
Tab completion: an example
Typing cd proj and pressing Tab completes it to cd project/ if that is the only match.
