What is command history?
Command history: The shell's saved list of commands you have run before, which you can browse with the up arrow, list with the history command or search with Ctrl+R. It speeds up repeating long commands but may accidentally store secrets typed inline.
Command history: an example
Pressing Ctrl+R and typing docker brings back your last command containing docker.
