What is parallelism?
Parallelism: Running several computations at literally the same time on multiple processor cores. It speeds up CPU-heavy work and, in Python, is usually achieved with separate processes. It needs multiple cores, and is distinct from merely interleaving tasks.
Parallelism: an example
Using four cores to process four image batches at once takes about a quarter of the sequential time.
