What is legend?
Legend: The key on a chart that explains which colour, line style or marker stands for which series or category. It is created from the labels given to each plotted item and should be placed where it does not hide the data.

ax.plot(x, y1, label='2025'); ax.plot(x, y2, label='2026'); ax.legend() shows which line is which year.
