What is docker?
Docker (also called Docker Engine): An open-source platform for packaging an application together with its libraries and settings into a portable unit that runs the same way on a laptop, a server or a cloud machine. It uses features of the Linux kernel to isolate programs from each other without the weight of a full virtual machine.
Docker: an example
A data scientist in Pune builds a model API on her laptop, packages it with Docker, and the ops team in Hyderabad runs the identical package on a cloud server with no "works on my machine" surprises.
