What is symmetric matrix?
Symmetric matrix: A square matrix that equals its own transpose, so entry (i, j) equals entry (j, i). Covariance matrices and Gram matrices are symmetric, and such matrices have real eigenvalues and orthogonal eigenvectors.
Symmetric matrix: an example
[[2,1],[1,3]] is symmetric because the entry in row 1, column 2 equals the entry in row 2, column 1.
