What is rank?
Rank: The number of linearly independent columns (equivalently rows) in a matrix, telling how many dimensions its output actually covers. A rank below the full possible value signals redundancy or collapsed information.
Rank: an example
[[1,2,3],[2,4,6],[1,0,1]] has rank 2, because its second row is twice the first.
