What is data federation?
Data federation (also called Data virtualisation): Giving a single query interface over several separate data sources, so data is fetched from where it lives at query time instead of being copied into one store. It avoids duplication but depends on source performance.
Data federation: an example
One SQL view combines sales in a warehouse and customers in an operational database without copying either.
