What is thresholding?
Thresholding: Converting a grayscale image to a black-and-white one by setting pixels above a cutoff to white and the rest to black. It is a simple way to separate foreground from background, as in document scanning.
Thresholding: an example
With threshold 128, a pixel of 200 becomes 255 and a pixel of 90 becomes 0.
