What is binary mask?
Binary mask (also called Segmentation mask): An image-sized grid of ones and zeros marking which pixels belong to a region, with 1 for inside and 0 for outside. Segmentation models output masks, and masks can be used to cut out objects.
Binary mask: an example
A mask of a tumour is 1 on the tumour's pixels and 0 elsewhere, letting software measure its area by counting the ones.
