What is semantic versioning?
Semantic versioning (also called SemVer): A numbering scheme MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH where a major bump signals breaking changes, minor adds compatible features and patch makes compatible fixes. It tells users how risky an upgrade is. Package managers use it to decide which upgrades are safe.
Semantic versioning: an example
Going from 2.3.4 to 2.4.0 adds features without breaking; going to 3.0.0 may break existing code.
