What is fast-forward?
Fast-forward (also called Fast-forward merge): A kind of merge where the target branch has no new commits of its own, so Git simply moves its pointer forward to the incoming branch's latest commit. No merge commit is created and history stays a straight line.
Fast-forward: an example
If main has not changed since you branched, merging your branch just moves main to your last commit.
