What is fetch?
Fetch: Downloading new commits and branches from a remote without changing your working files or current branch. It lets you inspect what others have done before deciding to merge it. It is the safe first step before combining anything.
Fetch: an example
git fetch origin updates origin/main, and git log main..origin/main lists the new commits.
