What is soft margin?
Soft margin (also called C parameter): A relaxation that lets a margin-based classifier make some mistakes or let points fall inside the gap, in return for a wider margin. The parameter C controls the trade-off: small C tolerates more violations, large C punishes them heavily.
Soft margin: an example
SVC(C=0.1) permits many margin violations and gives a smoother boundary; SVC(C=1000) fits training data tightly.
