What is maximum margin classifier?
Maximum margin classifier: A linear classifier that picks, among all lines or planes that separate two classes perfectly, the one farthest from the nearest training points on both sides. A wide gap tends to generalise better. It only works when the classes can be separated exactly.
Maximum margin classifier: an example
Among many lines splitting red and blue dots, choose the one leaving a 3-unit-wide empty corridor.
