What is SVM (support vector machine)?
Support vector machine (also called SVM): A classifier that finds the boundary separating two classes with the widest possible gap between them. Only the points closest to the boundary, the support vectors, determine it. With kernels it can draw curved boundaries, and it works well on medium-sized, high-dimensional data.
Support vector machine: an example
Separating cancerous from normal cells using 30 measurements: the model finds the widest-margin hyperplane in that 30-dimensional space.
