What is softmax regression?
Softmax regression (also called Multinomial logistic regression): A multi-class extension of logistic fitting that scores every class with its own weighted sum and converts the scores into probabilities that add up to 1 using the softmax function. The predicted class is the one with the highest probability.
Softmax regression: an example
Scores of 2.0, 1.0 and 0.1 for cat, dog and bird become probabilities of about 0.66, 0.24 and 0.10.
