What is SOAP?
SOAP: Simple Object Access Protocol is an older messaging standard for web services in which requests and responses are XML envelopes with strict contracts described in WSDL files. It is verbose but still used in banking and enterprise systems.
SOAP: an example
A bank integration sends an XML envelope calling GetBalance and receives an XML reply.
