What is status code?
Status code (also called HTTP status code): A three-digit number at the start of an HTTP response that summarises the outcome. Ranges are 1xx informational, 2xx success, 3xx redirection, 4xx client error and 5xx server error. Programs branch on it to decide whether to use, fix or retry a call.
Status code: an example
A script treats 200 as success, 404 as a wrong URL and 503 as a reason to retry later.
