What is rate limiting?
Rate limiting (also called Rate limit): A control that caps how many requests a client may make in a period, such as 60 per minute, to protect servers from overload and abuse and to share capacity fairly. Exceeding it typically returns a 429 status.
Rate limiting: an example
A free API plan allows 100 requests a minute, and the 101st receives 429.
