What is SSIM?
SSIM: Structural Similarity Index, an image-quality measure that compares local luminance, contrast and structure between two images. It ranges up to 1, where 1 means identical, and matches perceived quality better than raw pixel error.
SSIM: an example
A compressed photo with SSIM 0.97 against the original is visually near-identical, while 0.70 shows clear degradation.
