What is METEOR?
METEOR: A translation metric that aligns words between candidate and reference by exact match, then stems and synonyms, and combines unigram precision and recall (weighted toward recall) with a penalty for scrambled word order. It tends to correlate better with human judgment than plain n-gram precision.
METEOR: an example
A translation that says 'automobile' where the reference says 'car' still earns a match through synonym alignment, which BLEU would count as a miss.
