What is operating point?
Operating point: The particular decision threshold, and therefore the particular precision-recall or TPR-FPR pair, at which a classifier is actually deployed. Metrics such as AUC summarise all thresholds, but a live system must commit to a single one, chosen from business costs or constraints.
Operating point: an example
A fraud team picks the threshold at which the model flags 0.5% of transactions, because the review team can only handle about 500 alerts a day.
