What is Calinski-Harabasz index?
Calinski-Harabasz index (also called variance ratio criterion): An internal clustering measure equal to the ratio of between-cluster dispersion to within-cluster dispersion, adjusted for the number of clusters and points. Higher values indicate dense, well-separated clusters, and it is used to compare numbers of clusters without labels.
Calinski-Harabasz index: an example
Running K-means for k = 2 to 8 and picking the k with the highest Calinski-Harabasz score is a common heuristic.
