What is catalogue coverage?
Catalogue coverage (also called item coverage): The fraction of items in a catalogue that a recommender ever recommends over a test period. Low coverage means the system keeps surfacing the same popular items and ignores the long tail, even if its accuracy metrics look fine.
Catalogue coverage: an example
If a shop lists 10,000 products but the recommender only ever shows 2,000 of them, catalogue coverage is 20%.
