What is median filter?
Median filter: A noise-removal filter that replaces each pixel with the median of the values in its neighbourhood. Unlike averaging, it removes isolated bright or dark specks while keeping edges sharp. It is especially good against isolated speckle noise.
Median filter: an example
For the neighbourhood 10, 12, 11, 255, 9, the median is 11, so the 255 speck disappears.
