What is c4.5?
C4.5: Quinlan's successor to ID3 that handles numeric features by choosing thresholds, copes with missing values and prunes the tree afterwards. It uses gain ratio, which corrects information gain's bias toward features with many distinct values.
C4.5: an example
A feature like customer_id with unique values would look perfect by information gain, but gain ratio penalises it so C4.5 avoids that split.
