What is fairness metric?
Fairness metric (also called group fairness metric): A number that quantifies whether a model treats groups comparably, for example by comparing approval rates or error rates between men and women. Different metrics encode different ideas of fairness and often cannot all be satisfied at once, so teams must choose deliberately.
Fairness metric: an example
A team reports that a loan model approves 62% of applicants in one group and 48% in another, and tracks that 14-point gap as a fairness metric.
