What is GDPR?
GDPR (also called General Data Protection Regulation): The European Union's data protection law, in force since 2018, that governs how personal data of people in the EU is collected and used. It sets principles, lawful bases and individual rights, and applies to organisations anywhere that offer services to or monitor people in the EU.
GDPR: an example
An Indian SaaS firm with paying customers in Germany must handle those customers' personal data according to the GDPR, even though its servers are in India.
