What is data minimization?
Data minimization (also called data minimisation): The principle of collecting and keeping only the personal data that is needed for a stated purpose, and no more. It reduces breach exposure and legal risk, and in AI products means not logging or training on data you have no need for.
Data minimization: an example
A pet-care app asks only for the pet's age and symptoms, and does not collect the owner's exact home address.
