What is automated decision-making?
Automated decision-making (also called automated individual decision-making): Decisions made by technical means with no meaningful human involvement, for example an algorithm that approves or rejects a loan. The GDPR gives people safeguards against decisions made solely by automated means that produce legal or similarly significant effects, including the right to human review.
Automated decision-making: an example
An online lender rejects an application instantly by algorithm; the applicant can ask for a person to review the decision.
