What is quantile forecast?
Quantile forecast: A prediction of a chosen quantile of the future distribution, such as the 10th, 50th or 90th percentile, instead of the average. It lets planners handle asymmetric costs, such as stocking to a 90th percentile to avoid stock-outs.
Quantile forecast: an example
The 90th percentile demand forecast is 1,200 units: demand is expected to be at or below it 90 percent of the time.
