What is credit assignment?
Credit assignment: The problem of deciding which of the many earlier choices deserve credit or blame for a later score. It is hard when rewards are delayed, since the useful action may have occurred long before feedback arrives.
Credit assignment: an example
In a chess game lost at move 60, the real mistake might have been at move 22.
