What is part-of-speech tagging?
Part-of-speech tagging (also called POS tagging): Assigning each word its grammatical category, such as noun, verb, adjective or preposition, using the context of the sentence to settle ambiguous words. It supports parsing, lemmatisation and information extraction, and is a classic example of sequence labelling.
Part-of-speech tagging: an example
In "Time flies", "Time" is tagged noun and "flies" verb; in "Time flies like an arrow" context helps settle the tags.
