What is sentence segmentation?
Sentence segmentation (also called Sentence boundary detection, Sentence splitting): Dividing a text into individual sentences. It is harder than splitting at full stops because periods also appear in abbreviations, decimals and initials, so rule-based or learned methods are used to decide which ones truly end a sentence.
Sentence segmentation: an example
In "Dr. Rao paid Rs. 4.5 lakh. He left." only two of the four full stops end a sentence.
