What is OLTP?
OLTP (also called Online transaction processing): Online transaction processing: systems that handle many small, fast reads and writes for day-to-day operations, such as placing an order or transferring money, with strong consistency. They are optimised for individual records, not big analysis.
OLTP: an example
A bank's core database records each ATM withdrawal as a quick, isolated transaction.
