What is text detection?
Text detection: The first stage of many OCR systems: locating where text appears in an image and returning boxes or polygons around words or lines, before any characters are read. Separating finding from reading makes each stage easier to train and debug.
Text detection: an example
On a shop-front photo, the detector draws boxes around the sign's Hindi and English lines.
