What is HEAD?
HEAD: A pointer showing which commit or branch is currently checked out, and hence the parent of your next commit. Usually it points to a branch name, which in turn points to the latest commit.
HEAD: an example
HEAD~1 refers to the commit just before the current one, and git diff HEAD compares against the latest commit.
