What is data breach notification?
Data breach notification: The obligation to report a personal data breach, meaning unauthorised access, loss or disclosure, to the regulator and often to the affected people. Under India's DPDP Act, fiduciaries must inform the Data Protection Board and affected data principals; the GDPR has its own strict timing rules.

When an attacker downloads a customer table, the company informs the regulator and sends affected users a message describing what happened.
