What is intermittent demand?
Intermittent demand: Demand that is zero in many periods and occasionally non-zero, common for spare parts and slow-moving items. Ordinary methods behave poorly, so specialised methods model both how often demand occurs and how large it is when it does.
Intermittent demand: an example
A shop sells a rare spare part on only 6 of 60 days, in quantities of 1 to 3.
